For the first time ever Ethno Sweden will have guests from Malawi! Jerusha and Gift will come with songs. dances, percussion and guidar and share the music from the small country by the big lake Malawi.

Gift Banda, popularly known as Gift the guitarist, is 24. He was born in the city of Blantyre, where he joined the worship praise team at his church where his musical journey began. He is an accountant but has now left that carrier for a musical one.  He has worked as a music teacher, a performing and session guitarist and also learned to be a producer working with Substance Music studios. He moved to Lilongwe the capital city to study music at a professional level with Music Crossroads Academy.

Jerusha Chipingo is an aspiring musician who started with music very early. She won a composition contest at her church when she was six. She has played recorder and piano but now she studies to play the guitar at the Music Crossroads Academy Malawi where apart from pursuing guitar has grown to love traditional music and dance.   Jerusha is very much interested in the different drumming styles that accompany Malawi’s music and dance. Jerusha’s aspirations in her music career are to become the best Malawian female musician.

Music Crossroads is an organisation that works in countries in southern Africa with music education, social issues, festivals etc. Crossroads is a part of the worldwide organisation Jeunesses Musicales International – just like Ethno.

Will be nice to hear you play in Sweden, Gift and Jerusha!
